Gohado Island, the dragon on the sea in front of Mokpo, the ship entering into Gohado with the sunset glow behind when the ‘Boatman’s Song’ is automatically sung.
Gohado Island is about 2km from Mokpo. Gohado was named as such because it was under the high mountain (Yudalsan Mountain). Gohado looks very impressive because it seems to be surrounded by the southern coast of Mokpo.
It is said that people lived on Gohado from the Era of Three States. Admiral Yi Sun-shin used Gohado as a strategic site during the Japanese invasion in 1594. To commemorate his victory, the Monument for Admiral Yi Sun-shin (Local Tangible Cultural Heritage No. 39) was erected in Gohado.
Gohado was designated as the Historic Site in honor of of Admiral Yi Sun-shin (Local Monument No. 10). In Gohado Yongmeori (dragon head), the gateway to Mokpo Port, Nakjodae Terrace of Yudalsan Mountain or Ildeungbawi Rock present beautiful scenery. Appreciate the brilliant nightscape created by the multi-color lights in harmony with the sea at night.

The name Geomundo was also titled at the end of Joseon dynasty. It means ‘great erudition’. The admiral Ding Ruchang of Chinese Navy during the Qing dynasty came Geomundo to protest against UK’s occupation of Geomundo and name the island ‘Geomundo’ as he was admired by the great erudition of Geomundo residents .
It is the southernmost island of Dadohae and is in the middle between Yeosu and Jejudo Island. It consists of three islands: the Seodo island, the Dongdo Island, and the Godo Island. Only Godo Island is called Geomundo Island. Geomundo in Yeosu has the 100-year-old lighthouse and the cemetery of British Soldiers.
The island is covered with Camellia trees here and there. Geomundo includes the Godo Island, Dongdo Island and Seodo Island along with Sambu-do, the Baekdo-do Islands. The main island is composed of three islands so that it was called Samdo or Samsando Island. The main island is really a 'fortress' made by someone. Two islands stretch their arms and envelop it all the way as if it would protect everything against storms. Since the sea is always calm, it was a blessed port which the great powers such as Russia, England, America, and Japan always wanted to occupy.

‘Gaudo’ gained its name because it looks like the yoke of a cow.
The residents of Gaudo Island made Dano rice cakes with a kind of marsh plant on Dano Day (May 5th on the lunar calendar) (also called Suri Day), perform ancestral rites with the rice cakes, and enjoyed the day with a variety of games, including swinging and Korean traditional seesawing and sharing food.
There was the custom that all people in the village performed to ensure a big catch of fish to the old tree at the entrance of the village every spring. They also brewed and shared wine and had a great time together.
Gaudo is a small beautiful island with only 31 residents in 14 households now. Two pedestrian bridges were built over the sea, connecting both sides of the land with Gaudo in the center. One bridge is 438m long and starts from Jeodu Village, Daegu-myeon. The other bridge is 715m and connects Gaudo to Mangho Quay, Doam-myeon.

The mountain and the sea which seem dark blue although they are truly green, rocks in various shapes suddenly rising straight out of the sea and the rocks of fantastic shapes created as they endure the waves at a corner of the land for a long time remind one of a scroll of an oriental painting being harmonized with the ocean.
The tourism resources of Heuksando include the Sangrabong Tour Road, Exile of Sir Jeong Yak-yong (Sachon Village School), Jasan Literary House, Exile Culture Park, Monument of the Song Heuksando Lady, and Bird Sculpture Park.

Bogildo Island is 12km from Wando International Harbor. Long times ago, Gosan Yun Seondo dropped by this island to avoid typhoon on the way to Jejudo Island and was fascinated by magnificent landscape of the island. Then, he named the island ‘Buyongdong’ and decided to stay here. As staying for about 10 years, he built 25 buildings including Seyeonjeong Pavilion and Nakseojae Library and enjoyed the pastoral life. His famous work “Angler’s Calendar" was created here. Three beaches on the island with silver sand or pebbles spreading out are very popular as a summer resort. In the southern part of the island, small gravels without sand spread 1.4Km at Yeosongri Beach. It looks more beautiful as being harmonized with the Yeosong-ri evergreen forest, the Natural Monument No. 40. The exuberant subtropical plants create the mysterious harmony with the clear sea. In particular, the southern sea route to Bogildo Island enhances its beauty with the large and small islands scattering here and there over the blue sea.
